We are thrilled to celebrate a momentous occasion here at Toward Maximum Independence (TMI)! Andy Palasciano, a dedicated TMI Supported Employment (SE) Job Coach, is marking an incredible 20 years of service with our organization. Andy’s passion for empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) shines through in everything he does.
A Philosophy of Putting People First
Andy’s journey with TMI began when he sought a new opportunity in the field of supporting individuals with IDD. What struck him most about TMI was its unique philosophy – a philosophy that prioritized the needs of clients above all else. In his own words, “TMI puts the clients’ needs first, and I am still loving working here.”
A Supportive Network Makes All the Difference
Over the years, Andy has experienced the unwavering support of TMI’s team. He credits his Division Manager Brent Ramsey and former supervisors Associate Division Manager Mohamed Ali and SE Associate Director Nick Pelosi for providing a strong foundation for his success. He also acknowledges the constant source of inspiration he receives from his clients and fellow coaches, who emphasize the importance of “love and happiness” in their work.

"Andy is the real deal and completely walks the talk," said Brent. "He is kind, committed, sociable, responsible, reliable, hardworking, and a pure joy to work with. He is an incredible asset to our agency."
Challenges and Triumphs
The supported employment field comes with its own set of challenges. Andy acknowledges that there can be misconceptions about the capabilities of clients with IDD. However, he emphasizes the immense satisfaction that comes with overcoming these challenges and witnessing his clients flourish in the open job market. As Andy says, “The challenges in this job are pretty common to most jobs, but we are gradually eliminating any beliefs that our clients can’t succeed in the open job market.”
"We are grateful for Andy's passion and expertise in helping individuals achieve their employment goals," said TMI SE Director Marcus Byrd. "We thank him for his remarkable service and for being an integral part of our team."
The Power of Making a Difference
For Andy, the most rewarding aspect of his role is the positive impact he has on the lives of his clients. He finds great joy in witnessing their growth and achievements. As he so eloquently states, “It feels amazing to make a difference in my clients’ lives, and they make an incredible difference in my life also.”
Recognizing the Contributions of Trailblazers
Andy greatly admires Temple Grandin who he had the opportunity to hear speak at the San Diego Central Library. Temple, who has autism, is one of the most accomplished people in the country (her designs are used in 50% of the feed lots for cattle in the world). Temple shared “We need visual thinkers to design buildings," but then she added “and engineers so the buildings won’t fall down!"
According to Andy "She was hilarious and spoke directly to the hearts of persons with disabilities and their families." Temple drew in a crowd of hundreds and Andy thought that she was an amazing and a very funny speaker!
Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication
Andy's 20 years of service at TMI are a testament to his unwavering dedication to supporting individuals with IDD. His passion and commitment to transforming lives have undoubtedly made a lasting impact on countless lives. We at TMI are incredibly fortunate to have Andy on our team, and we look forward to his continued success in the years to come.
