Project Connect
Welcome to the TMI Project Connect Web Pages
The Toward Maximum Independence Project Connect pages will allow you to learn more about the challenges of substance use, substance abuse, addiction and recovery as they relate to people with developmental disabilities.
Toward Maximum Independence, in partnership with John de Miranda of the The National Association on Alcohol, Drugs and Disability, completed a project during 2008 and 2009 with funding from The California Endowment. The purpose of the project was to examine the problem of addiction and recovery in the community of people with developmental disabilities, and also to explore the availability of treatment resources for this group. The project brought together professionals from the developmental disability services community, law enforcement officers, judges, addiction and recovery professionals, community leaders and government officials as part of this effort.
You are encouraged to view the Project Connect video that gives an overview of the Project and contains scenes from a community summit held at the conclusion of the project.
You may also view the Project Connect brochure which describes the project in a little more detail.
